Practice Areas

Divorce and Separation 25%

Family law and divorce or separation are often considered part of the same practice area. These areas, and the real estate law that goes along with these areas, constitutes about half of my practice. Areas in addition to divorce include preservation of assets, custody, parenting time and visitation, modification of parenting time or visitation, and modifications of child support or spousal support.

Elder Law 25%

My practice is relatively evenly split between Elder Law and Family Law, and the Real Estate law that goes with these areas. Elder Law includes Medicaid planning and applications; preservation of assets; obtaining, resisting, and administering Guardianships and Conservatorships; Probates; and Estate and Incapacity Planning, including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Advance Directives for Health Care.

25%
Family 25%

Family law includes divorce and separation, as well as other areas including custody, parenting time and visitation, the modification of parenting time or visitation, and modification of child support or spousal support. Family law, including divorce and separation, and the real estate and the asset preservation issues that accompany this work comprise about half of my practice.

25%
Real Estate 25%

Most of my real estate work arises in the course of family law, including divorce and separation cases, or in the course of elder law work. Real estate can be the most valuable asset a family has, and preserving it, either during a divorce; or when long term care and Medicaid spend down become issues; or during a guardianship or conservatorship can be of great importance. Achieving these goals can also be technically complicated, particularly in these specialized areas of the law.

Elder Law

Steven helped us navigate a tricky path thru the Medicaid process for our elder father and a piece of property that we were hoping to keep. His insight and experience steered us thru and ultimately we were able to save the house. And importantly, his manor and confidence allowed us to relax thru the ...process. We heartily recommend Steven, he’s a real gift.

Very thorough, easy to work with

Steve wrote a will and trust for me when I remarried at age 69. He carefully followed my wishes. The documents he produced will make my future life smoother and the dealing with my estate easier for my executor. I recommend him highly.

Working a Complex Elder Law Case

My wife and I used Steve to re-do our wills and establish a trust. My wife has become a Stage 6 Alzheimer's person and future care was going to be an issue. Heinrich helped navigate the complex Medicare/Medicaid environment to help us protect our limited assets. He also developed a great care plan... for my wife in the event of my death before hers.

Be careful

First let me say that in my business I have had to deal with lawyers for over 30 years. Please be very very careful before engaging with this attorney. He will have you sign a fee agreement that is complicated and overly detailed as to how billing is done. That should have been my clue to walk away ...but had already started the process with him and he is a knowledgeable lawyer in elder law. Unfortunately, He did research ( which is in the fee agreement ) at his discretion but in our case was a long list of rabbit hole research and “what if’s” that he admitted would most likely not happen and I never asked him to check on. It is Then charged us!! I asked him to write a simple short friendly letter to medicaid to feel out a situation that had most likely been resolved already but I wanted to be sure. He charged for listening to messages, and getting them from his assistant who got what I said wrong several times! He also charges for emails. He also charged me for a synopsis of our first meeting that cost more than the first initial meeting! I did not ask for that synopsis I took notes of my own. In the end I never got what I needed and was afraid to make notes on the draft since the first time I asked for two tiny changes his “research “ cost ME almost $800! In my experience he does not stay on track and do just the task requested. I say stay away unless you have money to burn. Thousands billed to me for what should have been a few hundred dollars in my opinion and experience:

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
