My practice is primarily but not exclusively commercial real estate, representing residential and commercial developers, landlords and tenants.  I also represent borrowers in negotiating and closing large acquisition and development loans and permanent financing.  Many of our firm clients are family or closely held businesses.  I help them in their acquisition, construction or leasing transactions and the financing to accomplish those.

In the early part of my legal career I was a prosecutor for Multnomah County District Attorney.  I handled all sorts of cases in that capacity, including murder, robbery, arson, sex crimes, burglary, vehicular homicides, assaults, fraud, and driving offenses, to support enforcement and mental commitments.  When I went into private practice, I was initially a litigator.  My caseload was varied but with significant real estate emphasis.  There were cases unwinding transactions that had not performed as desired, separating unhappy joint owners and pursuing remedies or defending pursuers in breah of agreement claims.  There were also contractual and other business cases not related to real estate.  There were even tort cases, including wrongful loss of remains and waterslide injury cases.  In the last 15 years or so, my practice has been primarily real estate transaction based and I have been involved with clients who did extremely well.  Needless to say, the environment has been more challenging since late 2008 and more of the work has been devoted to figuring out how to weather the storm of recession.

When not working, I enjoy playing in a neighborhood band with my wife and friends, playing golf ( sometimes with one or more of my grown children) and stand-up paddleboarding.
