Excellent

I have been a client of Duboff Law since 1997. During that time, Leonard Duboff has represented my company in 2 legal cases, and has advised on hundreds of IP issues in the areas of Trademarks, Copyrights, Patents, and trade Dress. Leonard is both highly knowledgable, and able to make complex IP issu...es understandable by the lay person. During this 20 year period, Leonard and his team have provided top notch service while at the same time working carefully to save my company from paying unnecessary expenses. I would highly recommend Duboff Law to any company struggling with the complex issues of IP protection, litigation, and management.

Litigation

I am an intellectual property attorney in Florida. I hired The Duboff Law Group, PC in Portland, Oregon for an important legal matter. Leonard and his staff were very professional from the start. They worked diligently and quickly, while keeping my budget in mind. Leonard kept me in the loop as h...e worked on the case. He explained the options, detailing the pros/cons. After we agreed on a plan, Leonard swiftly obtained a positive result. His knowledge and expertise in handling the matter was a breath of fresh air. I would be pleased to work with him again.

Leonard DuBoff - Caveat Emptor Buyer Beware

In 2013 my real estate attorney referred me to Mr. DuBoff to represent me in a potential civil case involving personal injury and invasion of privacy. My real estate attorney did not know DuBoff personally but only second-hand. DuBoff wrote a demand letter on my behalf and reviewed the response lette...r. This was the specific legal work he did for me. His final billing well exceeded the projected amount we discussed and the retainer I paid. I reviewed this with my real estate attorney who urged fee arbitration with the Oregon Bar. When I requested DuBoff via email to negotiate on his billing and mentioned my real estate attorney's advice, he informed me that he welcomed fee arbitration because he is on the arbitration panel and mentioned the names of his colleagues on the panel. On Avvo.com, I give DuBoff an Excellent rating on Responsiveness, because he and his staff were very available to engage my business and support back-and-forth discussions. I give him Poor ratings on Trustworthy and Kept Me Informed because he blatantly ran up my bill by encouraging trivial dialog and poorly managing the operational details of items such as process serving, all the while charging me his full rate for all activities and never giving any guidance on effective client-attorney communications nor more importantly on the best strategy for resolving my case efficiently. DuBoff in effect let me do my bidding in an emotionally charged and confusing legal situation while giving me no real guidance on the probable outcomes of the legal action. While I acknowledge that the billing accurately captures the interactions I had with DuBoff and staff, I feel that a client engaging DuBoff will incur the risk of being milked financially. The overall engagement felt like I was played as a mark. DuBoff frequently referred to other unnamed settlements he had recently won, and claimed personal sympathy for my injury, but I believe these and other behaviors are the techniques of a salesman rather than an attorney. DuBoff appears to have a significant prior history of credentials and publications, but I question the financial and practical wisdom of becoming his client at this late stage of his legal career. A potential client should be very sure DuBoff is a good fit for their case and be constantly vigilant that time spent dealing with DuBoff is effective. Caveat emptor.

Great Attorney!

Mr. DuBoff has been my attorney for over 25 years. He has handled a variety of cases for me, mostly in the field of art copyright and business law. He has given me excellent advice, and gotten me out of some tight situations. A business associate of my husband put $40,000+ on my credit card and t...hen skipped town. The credit card company came after me for payment. Mr. DuBoff negotiated an excellent settlement for me, no interest, repaying only 25% of the original amount. On another occasion, he negotiated a lucrative licensing deal for me with a well-known manufacturer of collectible plates and porcelains. These are just two examples of what he has done for me in the past. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a sharp, but honest, attorney. His fees are reasonable in comparison to other attorneys of his caliber. And he is a good listener, with a sense of compassion.

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"Leonard was one of my law professors in law school. I was also privileged to share space in his building and enjoyed having him as a resource in areas in which I do not practice. He is kind and enjoyable to work with and is a gifted communicator. Clients we served together often came away understanding complex issues because of how he presented them. He is a also a shrewd tactician who understands the dynamics of litigation and how best maximize a client's advantage. I recommend him for business formation and litigation, as well as Intellectual Property matters. I enjoy my continued good relationship with him and refer clients when the needs arise."
