Biography
Ben Pirie combines years of expert corporate counsel to cannabis businesses with an ex-litigator's appreciation for collaboration and risk management through careful planning. Ben brings his experience as in-house counsel to a Fortune 1000 company in Portland to bear on Oregon's emerging cannabis industry, where he advises clients on business transactions, contracts, entity formation and management, securities compliance, corporate governance, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, state and local administrative law, proper use of oxford commas, and employment matters.
Results-oriented and responsive, Ben has helped clients on their terms and timelines to get and keep every type of OLCC recreational marijuana license, from labs to retailers. He finds the most satisfaction in building long-lasting relationships with clients as they reach towards their goals in one of the most exciting, dynamic, and fraught industries in the world. In addition to advising clients, Ben is active in engaging with state and local governments in order to ensure common-sense, business-friendly regulation of the marijuana industry.
Outside of work, you'll find him running on and off the beaten paths of Oregon, snowboarding on Mt. Hood, or chasing his two boys around the parks of Portland. Ben loves good food, strong coffee, and the New England Patriots. He's still sore about the time he lost on Jeopardy!, but would be happy to tell you about it.
Trying his best to be a fan of all of your least favorite sports teams, Ben graduated from Duke University in 2004, majoring in Chemistry and Art History. He obtained his JD and Business Law Certificate from The Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in 2011.
