Blindsided

We had used Goldberg Jones before and had a great experience with Tori. Unfortunately, this time Tori was no longer there, and during our consultation, we were referred to John Alarcon. At our first meeting, John seemed confident in our case. However, throughout our conversations, he often went back... and forth in his advice and decision-making, which made him seem unsure of his approach. When our court date arrived, we were shocked by how he handled things. Up until that point, we still had hope, but when we met with him at trial, he suddenly said he didn’t think we should go forward. This was especially upsetting because we had chosen Goldberg Jones for their strong reputation in fathers’ rights cases. To make matters worse, John told us—at court—that if we wanted to go hard against the mother for custody, we should have hired a female attorney. This was something he had never mentioned during the many months he knew our plan and represented us. In the end, he pushed us into signing a settlement and giving up more than we had intended. Because of how this was handled, we’ve had a very hard time trusting any lawyer since. No family should walk into court confident in their case only to be blindsided by their own attorney moments before. If John truly believed a female attorney was necessary for our case, he should have been honest from the start instead of taking it on. I’ve put off writing this for a long time, but now that we are back in court trying to undo what John did, I feel I can’t stay silent. I don’t want another family to go through what we went through.
