Solid

I needed a divorce lawyer and had no experience as to what or could happen. Shelly was a great help as the divorce turned more complicated. I cannot say enough to anyone in need of legal assistance. You get what you pay for...meaning...being prepared to go to trial (if necessary...and is a good defen...se strategy) requires legal legwork. Some of that can be done by the client to save time and money. But it will need to be compiled by the lawyer at some point. That will be time and money. You have to choose how well (or how extensive) you can afford the services. You will need to be upfront and direct with your budget. As she will with you. Do not forget!!! Every phone call, text mssg, email, and meeting will cost you. Be wise because you could very quickly blow your retainer by not being smart about when you use that "bank". Make your goals, stick to your plan, and always be on the same page with Shelly. The good: - Shelly is direct and fast talking. She expects quick decisions and that you stay on plan. That saves you time (money). - understands the divorce process very well and leaves no stone unturned. - expects input and goals from you. The process is about you. You need to be open and honest about your goals (and realistic). She will tell you what is likely and unlikely to work in court. Trust that her experience and guidance will save you further court related issues. - experience that shows at the court house...very quick, understands the process, knows a lot of people in the system. My courtroom experiences with Shelly were systematic and very quick. She owned the situation and had a goal. Again...that will save you time (money). The bad: - Shelly is direct and quick. She expects you to make quick decisions and stay on your plan. Being not familiar with the legal system and complexities was difficult for me. I needed someone with me and often took notes to refer back to. Shelly often wants answers to keep things moving. If you have a hard time making difficult decisions, this will be hard. That is why you need to stick to your goals. Have faith in that. - By this time you should know that Shelly is more analytical. She is not overly warm and fuzzy so if you need that, do not expect it. This is all about hard subject goals and legal protections. Keep that in mind. - Being well prepared can cost you in time and money. Be ready and fully understand that. It should be listed as the good. But it is a difficult reality to have to stick to a budget as things could draw out and become more complicated. Review your statement and charged time often!! You will need to keep your retainer full and you will need to communicate if you cannot proceed. All that being said...I found Shelly to be exceptional. She kept things moving in and out of court. She kept me on track and focused on goals that often get skewed due to emotions. I am happy to have had her on my team. I would strongly recommend her to anyone in need of her type of legal expertise. Very good experience given the nature of what was happening.

Flat out best attorney for any situation

So my wife was cheating on me for several years. I finally told her to stop or get out. A few days later she was gone and I received a false restraining order the very next day. Knowing that everything in the RO was a lie I decided to fight it on my own but it didn’t work out because I had no a...ttorney. I fought to see my 2 boys but did not make much progress. After a few months I started consulting attorneys and went to talk to one. I was told I was dreaming, and she would not take my money and good luck. The very next day I consulted with Shelly, and while she said my case would be difficult, she was confident we would prevail. She was extremely informative, honest and fair thru the entire process and it was not an easy case by any means. I went from every other weekend with my boys to having a majority of the parenting time to now settling to an equal 50/50 split as well as a fair split of assets and no spousal support. To put things in to perspective as to what I was up against my ex wanted me to have only supervised visits once per week for 3hrs, plus outrageous spousal and child support. Without Shelly I do not know where I would have ended up, and I sure as heck don't want to know. Most of the guys I know who have gone thru a divorce have told me so many horror stories, hence the reason I tried to stay in a relationship with my cheating ex for so long. Both my boys and myself can't thank Shelly enough for what she has done for us. She is truly a Rockstar when it comes to family law. I would highly recommend her to anyone and everyone I know. I would not want to be against her in any courtroom thats for sure. She knew what my kids meant to me, and what I meant to them… and she fought hard to make sure I got what was right. Thanks again Shelly. My boys and I truly can't thank you enough.

Shelly Perkins

Shelly represented me as my Legal Council during my 2015 divorce and child custody case. My X-husband moved out in May, 2015 and had been pressuring me for a divorce. He called me on a Wednesday to tell me that he had retained an attorney and would be having me served with the papers. He wanted to... give me a "heads up as I just started a new job." I called a friend who referred me to Shelly. Shelly agreed to see me the next day, Thursday. She had all the papers drawn up and was prepared to serve HIM on Friday. I chose to wait until Sunday in order to avoid serving him at work. Her team got the papers served on Sunday morning. My X-husband terminated his relationship with his attorney. Shelly adjusted some things in the decree, met with my X-husband to go over the paperwork which included division of a home, personal property, a business, child custody, visitation and support. He signed the paperwork work in her office. The very next day Shelly walked those papers to the judge, obtained a signature and I was divorced. She was amazing! I am still in "awe" of all she was able to achieve in such an expedited and confident manner. I knew from the first day I met her that she had my back. She even answered a few emails during NON-working hours when she sensed I was upset or scared. I have nothing but respect for Shelly and would recommend her to anybody seeking help with family law.

Excellent, knowledgeable and strategic attorney in a divorce process

I was engaged in what at first appeared to be a fairly cut and dried divorce case - no custody situation and a 50/50 split of assets/debts. My ex-husband chose to fight an even distribution and caused the negotiation process to drag out much longer than it should have. Shelly always kept my rights ...and interests at the forefront from a legal perspective and was able to advise how the court would rule in all areas so that I was completely informed and able to make many difficult decisions along the way. She was able to break down legalese and processes in layperson's terms so I felt empowered to respond with all the facts and options in front of me. With her determination, knowledge of the county court system, and guidance given on when to stand firm and when to compromise, I was able to close the divorce with a better result than originally expected. She always kept an even keel and skillfully navigated points of negotiation with my ex's attorney. She was also readily available via email or phone to advise or clarify. I highly recommend Shelly Perkins as legal representation in any divorce situation. While I didn't have minor children or custody to negotiate, I know that she has vast experience in this area as well. I will always be grateful to Shelly for her assistance with my divorce.

Great Attorney!

Shelly helped me with a modified custody case. Before I obtained her as my attorney, I had met with several others. After I met Shelly, no one else compared. She KNOWS the law. She understands the ins and outs, and explains everything in detail. I felt completely taken care of by Shelly, and even thr...ough a very difficult, emotionally draining time, my faith in her and knowing she was on my side was comforting. She was always very quick on returning my phone calls and emails. We had two full days in court, and I couldn't possibly be more satisfied with how Shelly fought for me and my son's best interests. I won full custody, along with several other things. Shelly continues to be my attorney when I have a question about how I should handle a situation or need advice. Thank you Shelly!

"I practice as a domestic relations attorney as opposing counsel against Shelly in the Tri-County area. I have handled several cases where Shelly represented the opposing party. In my experience she's a professional and tenacious advocate for her clients. I believe a more important skill she possesses is the ability to work with her clients and opposing counsel to help her clients avoid the substantial cost and risk associated with fully contested divorce and custody cases when the parties would be better off working toward a cooperative resolution. I endorse Shelly's skills and professionalism."
