Incredible Representation and Unwavering Care

Joel is truly a lifeline that allows client districts to continue to do the essential work of supporting students and staff. His kindness, compassion and care through challenging legal issues puts everyone involved at ease and feeling comfortable and confident in the process. He works diligently to... understand the nuances of a situation to best advocate for and support the best interests of those he’s supporting. His expertise of educational law and the public education system in Oregon, along with his creativity and flexibility, allows him to navigate complexities of a case with ease. Joel is responsive to his clients, being sure to address any questions and concerns, and keeps everyone informed about the progress of a case and options to consider along the way. Best Special Education attorney in Oregon!

I just retired from 30 years in education in Oregon. I have worked with several attorneys during those 30 years and Joel Hungerford is THE best Special Education attorney I have ever worked with. He returns phone calls and emails in a timely manner and he gets himself fully informed on situations q...uickly and thoroughly. He is an expert on the full range of Special Education law. His work is precise and accurate. His follow through is exceptional. His non-confrontational style is powerful and highly effective when IEP meetings turn contentious. When Joel presents at conferences and workshops, his room is packed to capacity. His charismatic and caring style enables him to deliver Special Education topics in an engaging manner that makes learning what is often "dry material" fun. And when you hire Joel, you not only get his brilliance, you get the combined brilliance of the entire Hungerford Law firm. I truly can not say enough wonderful things about Joel Hungerford.

All Around Top Notch Attorney

Joel Hungerford's technical skills are excellent. He knows the law and does his homework in order to be well versed in the most current thinking pertaining to each case. His strategic thinking assisted us in fully understanding the long term implications of decisions we were making and in sizing up... other parties involved. Joel's strong interpersonal skills contribute to his success, as well. He listens to his clients, quickly identifies dynamics within a group, and is able to factor the emotions at play into his work with the team. Perhaps most importantly, Joel has always acted with honesty and integrity in his dealings with me and others in my organization. I recommend him without reservation.

Outstanding Support... Personable, Thorough, and Timely

Outstanding support and continued advice. Really took the stress out of dealing with Special Education Due Process Complaint(s) as well as the legal hearings. Navigated the court filing and communications to ensure our School District was in the best position possible to present it's case. Very pe...rsonable!!! Helped to ease the stress and anxiety professional educators had during the process.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
