The Greenbrier Companies (NYSE: GBX) is one of the leading designers, manufacturers and marketers of railroad freight car equipment in North America and Europe, and a manufacturer and marketer of marine barges in North America. I provide legal support to our corporate segments as well as advice and counsel to senior management. My corporate functions include public company reporting, securities offerings, strategic joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, structured finance, cross-border operations, and commercial operations. I am delighted to be a member of legal team at Greenbrier. 

Professional Background

After graduating from the University of Chicago Law School in 1994, I joined a Soros- affiliated entity in Europe where was employed in several capacities related to public investment and project development. While in Europe, I also served for a time as an assistant professor of law at the Central European University.

In 1999,  I joined the New York office of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, a leading Canadian firm I came to know and respect while working in Europe. In 2007, when my wife and I started a family, we moved out West where I grew up. After a period at Stoel Rives, and K&L Gates, I joined the legal team at Greenbrier. 

Professional Activities

I actively participate in bar association activities and in public policy organizations and initiatives.

• Bar Committee Memberships. Served on several bar committees including the Partnership and LLC Law Committee, Washington State Bar Association Business Law Section (current), and the Committee on International Law of the New York State Bar Association
• Fellowships and Research Affiliations. Center for Study of Constitutionalism in Eastern Europe (University of Chicago), Council for Soviet and Post-Soviet Studies, Ford Foundation Research Fellowship, Fulbright Fellowship, Large Scale Emergency Response Program (NYU), Center for Law and Security (NYU), Center for Law and Development (NYU)
• Public Policy Work. Recurrent consultations and advice to the Department of Homeland Security, the New York City Office of Emergency Management, and the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. Substantially participated in legal policy initiatives for several organizations including the Open Society Institute, the Moscow Branch of the Russian Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the University of Chicago Law School, Bellevue Hospital (New York City), New York University School of Law, and New York University School of Medicine. Provided consultations and advice to ministries of European governments as well as various offices and programs of the United Nations.
