William Alvin Sloper

In June 2025, I retained Mr. Sloper to represent me in connection with potential criminal charges arising from an assault on June 2025. I was wrongfully arrested in Maui following an assault. After consulting with Mr. Sloper he insisted that I would need representation. He then demanded a $30K retai...ner fee. I was feeling somewhat uneasy but he continued to badger me that this is what was needed to move forward with y defense. Reluctantly and feeling rather strongarmed, I agreed to his fee and hoped that I would receive a competent defense. Mr. Sloper performed no real substantive work: approximately three to four hours total, consisting of one to two silent hours at the police station (where he instructed me to “shut up” amid false accusations and a direct threat from the assailant) and one brief hotel visit solely to collect the payment. No criminal charges were filed, no legal strategy was offered, no advocacy, no communication, and no updates. With no charges moving forward there was no need for representation and I assumed that my retainer would be refunded minus perhaps the few hours as previously mentioned. When I demanded a refund, he ceased all communication. After many months, he contacted my daughter who was still in Hawaii as we were traveling out of the country and released $17,000 in December 2025. I have still yet to receive the balance of $13,000 and have made numerous requests by email and phone calls that have gone unanswered. A formal complaint with the State Bar of Hawaii has been filed as of March 2026. BEWARE.....
