Chico's Best Lawyer

I hired Mr. McHugh in November of 2017 and it was the best decision I made for my child custody case. My custody case is a nightmare. Through Mr. McHugh and my own hard work, we slowly but surely have gained ground. Mr. McHugh is honest and up-front about how to handle the twist and turns of family... law cases. From what I have gathered over the year, Mr. McHugh is well respected by fellow lawyers and more importantly by judges.

Helpful and courteous

I have had the pleasure of choosing Mr. McHugh for my divorce. He has been actively helping me obtain proper child support and custody for the last two years. I have had an overall great experience. Mr. McHugh was helpful and courteous and I would highly recommend his services.

very blessed to have had Martin McHugh working my case

I was referred to Martin McHugh by a criminal attorney that only wanted the best outcome for me and my one year old baby. Our case was sensitive, involving restraining orders and our personal safety. From the first meeting with Martin it was obvious that he had a passion for practicing law and did n...ot "need my case just to pay his mortgage". Martin was attentive when listening to my situation, he was realistic in explaining the process of custody battles and how "opposing attorneys can draw them out for months to wear the other party down so that they settle". Martin surgically dissected each article of the opposing parties paperwork, responding quickly and effectively. He never buckled to a settlement, and quite the contrary advocated for the continual best interest of our very young child. Martin and his team were prompt with the billing process, providing monthly statements of exactly were I stood on funds in my retainer account. He and his office were efficient with their time balancing a quality job well done without wasting any of my money. Because of Martins passion for well representing his clients, his effectiveness in the court room both in cross examination on trial and speaking for the best interest of his clients and their children in open court to the Judge, and his high level of personal integrity, I would without hesitation recommend Martin McHugh.

I consider this man a thief. He took our money and did nothing. 0 rating

My daughter and I interviewed Martin for her child custody/visitation rights. He told us it would be a relatively simple matter of enforcing a court. Three years later my daughter had seen her children and had been to court many, many times that number. He did not tell her when her court dates were.... He refused to sit down with her/us to hear our side of the story so he could properly represent and defend her. In short McHugh is a miserable excuse for an attorney who took our money and then did essentially nothing.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
