David R. Lane

David R. Lane, was born in San Jose, California and raised in neighboring Butte County. He has been practicing law in Yuba and Sutter Counties for almost 35 years. He joined the Firm in 1973 and has been a shareholder of the Firm since 1976. Prior to joining the Firm, he worked in the Napa County District Attorney's Office. He also served as an interim administrative hearing officer for the State of California, hearing welfare appeals prior to working in the Napa District Attorney's office.

He received a B.A. in chemistry from California State University, Chico in 1970 and received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1973.

He is a Family Law Specialist, certified since 1980 by the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Lane primarily practices in the area of Family Law, however, he has substantial experience and practice in Criminal Law, Real Property Law, Personal Injury, Corporate Law, and Municipal Law. He has acted as Judge Pro Tem for various types of matters in the local courts. He has been named as a Top Attorney by the San Francisco Magazine, and Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine.

Mr. Lane is also committed to serving the local community by actively participating in other organizations outside of the legal field, including the Kiwanis Club of Yuba City. He is a past president of the Kiwanis Club (1988-89) and past Lieutenant Governor for Division 14 (1990-91). He has also served the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of Kiwanis International in many leadership capacities over the years. He is active in the Kiwanis sponsored high school service club, Key Club, having been the Kiwanis advisor to the Yuba City High School Key Club for 34 years and ongoing and having served the District as a Regional Advisor for five Key Club Divisions containing more than 50 Key Clubs for eleven years.

He also serves the local community by volunteering for various organizations, including service on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations; including Gateway Projects, Inc., a program for developmentally disabled and handicapped individuals (Director - 1987-92; President - 1992-94; immediate Past President - 1995); Sutter High Sports Alumni Association, a program to raise funds for Sutter High School sports programs (2001- current); the Yuba Sutter Oratorio Society, a program for the presentation and appreciation of music for children and adults (2004 - current). He performs annually in the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society's performance of Handel's Messiah.

He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Marysville Lodge number 783, having served in most of the offices and was the Exalted Ruler (1985-1986). He also served as the Presiding Justice for the Lodge for many years.

Mr. Lane is a member of the Yuba-Sutter Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists. He previously served as an articles editor for the State Bar Family Law Section publication. He has also served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

He is licensed to practice before the California State Courts and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California. He is qualified to and has represented clients before city councils and planning commissions, county Boards of Supervisors and planning commissions and various other local and state agencies.
