While attending the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Mariel Covarrubias had the unique experience of serving as the judicial intern to Appellate Judge Fausto Pocar at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Hague. At McGeorge, she was also a Comment Writer on the Global Business & Development Law Journal. Ms. Covarrubias graduated from McGeorge with distinction, obtaining a certificate in International Legal Studies in 2010. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 2005 from the University of California, Irvine.
Ms. Covarrubias currently represents private and public entity clients in defending personal injury and property damage matters. Her public entity work includes litigating claims on behalf of public entities for damage to public property and for power theft. She also represents clients in a variety of employment matters, including those alleging discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour violations. Ms. Covarrubias defends railroad companies in personal injury cases brought under the Federal Employers’ Liability Act.
Ms. Covarrubias has also practiced in the firm’s real estate and construction department. Additionally, Ms. Covarrubias advises clients in areas relating to conflicts of law and international business.
Prior to joining Murphy, Campbell, Alliston & Quinn in May of 2012, Ms. Covarrubias worked in Los Angeles with a focus on business litigation. Ms. Covarrubias is licensed and admitted to practice law in both California and New York. She is a member of the Sacramento County Bar Association and its Labor and Employment Law Section. She is also a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. Ms. Covarrubias is fluent in Spanish and speaks conversational Italian.
