The second half of my 31-year career as a California lawyer has emphasized administrative litigation, in a variety of subjects, in cases small to complex, and from all perspectives (prosecuting, defending, and currently advising the decisionmakers).  The first half was private sector litigation, with emphasis on federal courts but also including State, administrative, local, and ADR fora. 

While I would hesitate to "moonlight" in fields closely related to the subject of my current State position, K-12 public education, the fields in which I can find time to advise and possibly represent include health care, construction, real estate, insurance coverage, insurance regulation, civil rights, antitrust, securities, wage and hour law, and landlord-tenant disputes.  From four years' solo practice experience in the 1980s, I know when referral or co-counsel arrangements are important.  Likewise, my experience in a wide range of legal dispute settings gives me a keen awareness of the differences in rules, attitudes, expense, etc. 

Because I have a flexible schedule, I can quickly advise in many areas -- including, where it's often appropriate, to counsel against legal entanglement.
