Disclaimer: The following are personal opinions based on first-hand experience. This is probably one of the best attorneys in El Dorado County for family court matters, but he is a bit over-priced, inflexible, and somewhat condescending, among other attributes and faults. If you want the best result...s with him, you need to be prepared to let him exercise an ego on your dime. That can be a good thing in some cases, because he has an incredibly strong and competent court-room presence and one can tell he is probably the most well-regarded attorney in the county. However, with regards to case prep, he seems to demonstrate preconceived ideas, perhaps rightly so based on his vast experience, but he "shoots from the hip" more than a bit, so if you prefer hand-holding, you are used to thoroughness in your preparation, or you just like to manage (or at least ensure) the details of your case and be kept informed on at least a week-to-week basis, then you may want to look elsewhere. To keep costs down, he may recommend you interfacing on the day-to-day with a junior attorney or assistant in his office, but don't do it because the assistant was always flustered, couldn't think on their own feet by their-self without consulting with the boss, rarely returned calls, and constantly makes one retrace already-discussed subject matter "on the clock". This is precisely where the problems began in my case. So be prepared to keep this attorney on point for everything and to have to pay his hourly rate for even simple questions and follow-up. Because of his tenure, this attorney tends to put more value on his relationships with opposing attorneys throughout the county than he does with his clients, again in my experience, so keep in mind that for the most part you may feel like the odd man out. That could be a good thing when it comes time for him to negotiate for you with opposing counsel, however in my case he attempted to negotiate away my position in ways where a much better job would have been performed had he LISTENED to me or CONSIDERED THE DATA which I painstakingly prepared. When I protested, he threw a fit and dropped me, after me spending 5 figures already with him, of course. I spent a fraction of that amount with a subsequent attorney who was able to negotiate my settlement in a fraction of the time and for a settlement that was literally tens of thousands of dollars less than what this attorney tried force-feeding me. Working with this very competent and capable attorney was not a warm or courteous or even a contentious experience. Not at all how I treat my clients. The bottom line is that attorneys are not unlike a lot of other kinds of business people accustomed to getting what they want out of the relationship. They spend the most amount of effort on the business that poses the greatest potential for personal fiduciary reward with little regard to much outside that scope. In that regard, this attorney is excellent.
