Probate is the formal court supervised process for carrying out the terms of a deceased person's last will and testament. If the deceased person had a living trust, and the trust was "funded", probate can be avoided, and the simpler and quicker process of trust administration is implemented to wind up the estate and distribute the deceased person's assets to his or her beneficiaries.
