I have represented clients in bankruptcies for over 30 years, primarily in consumer cases (Debtor chapter 7 and 13s) I worked for a chapter 11 Trustee in the late 1980s and early 90s as he tried to wrap up a chapter 11 derived from a ponzi scheme, where I realized many people are far too trusting of a smiling face and a good (if implausable) story. I try to make sure my clients are clear, not only of their options, but also how their prior activities gave rise to those options. If there are issues that may cause difficulties, I will also give guidance in minimizing the risk to you. If creditors object to something in the filing by filing objections to the discharge of their debts (not a common occurance), I can also represent you with regard to those objections.
Since opening my own office, I have represented consumer and business clients in chapter 7 and 13 as well as chapter 11s, where appropriate. I believe bankruptcy should not be a first option for dealing with debts, and will tell you if a bankruptcy can be reasonably avoided, such as if you have no unprotectable assets and income, but creditors calling for payment.
The office added a furry receptionist to the staff in 2001, and we have had a dog to greet guests since then. Mollie is the pretty black and white border collie who will greet you at the door. Her side job is squirrel security, so don't be surprised,if you visit the office you see her darting from office to office while she surveilles the wiley rodents. (Pictured with me on our advertisements is Tucker, also a border collie mix. He was also an enthusiastic receptionist but passed away in 2014.)
