Helen grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended college at Hamline University, where her father was a history professor. She headed to California to attend law school at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was co-chair of the Moot Court Board.
After graduation, she practiced law in Denver for a number of years before returning to the Bay Area and settling in Sonoma to raise her family. She worked in San Francisco with two top tier law firms and relocated her practice to Sonoma in 2009.
Helen has focused on litigation since graduating from law school. She has practiced in state and federal courts in California, Colorado and around the country. She is a frequent presenter at conferences for lawyers regarding a variety of topics.
