Unprofessional and distracted

Terrible lawyer and beyond unprofessional. She played a Star Trek game on her phone the entire time we spoke while ranting about “leftist libtards” while talking about her new puppies and complaining about her failing gun shop. She also bragged about manipulating people by lying about a terminal kidn...ey disease

Indepent Counsel for Supoened Witness

I have known Merrisa as a family attorney for years. I have witnessed her skill in and out of the courtroom. Not only a fearless defender of her clients rights, but someone who makes the client part of her team. When I received a subpoena to appear at a deposition, my first call was to Merrisa. ... The prospect of being stuck between two very powerful, very well funded sets of attorneys, in case I had knowledge of both sides, put a bit of fear in me. Merrisa immediately put me at ease. She took command and managed the demands of the requests that both side were making on my time and knowledge. She sat down with me and explained her role, my role, and the roles of everyone involved in the deposition. This preparation made the event go off smoothly. Merrisa worked with the defendants counsel, and left me to answer the questions without any worry or anxiety. The 7 hour ordeal would have been far more difficult without the calm, direct, and firm hand that Merrisa used to get me through the day. Whether you are looking for a Family Practice attorney, legal advise, or counsel that can guide you through the maze that is the law, I can say that Ms. Coleman-Bishop is the attorney you should bring to your side. I witnessed a local attorney stand up for my rights in front of some the best lawyers that the entertainment and internet industry can hire. She did not flinch, back down, or take bait when they tried to knock her off her game. She stayed on task. I am honored to recommend Merrisa Coleman-Bishop.

Did a very good job for me!

I had a difficult case with an ex who is very vindictive. Due to the way the current VAWA laws are structured I faced a permanent restraining order for something I had no part in. The burden of proof is impossibly low, and so I faced losing my firearm, as well as a mark on my otherwise very clean rec...ord. She defended me zealously, and for a very reasonable cost. She was competent, knew her points of law, and systematiaclly dismantled the other sides legal argument bit by bit, and established to the court that she would not allow my rights to be violated in any way. It made all the difference. She won the day for me, and made me feel like sometimes, even if only very rarely, a man can get a fair hearing in Santa Clara County Family Court. Kudos also to the staff. They were freindly, understanding, and very easy to work with.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2002.

Discipline with Actual Suspension issued in CA, 2002

updated on 10/28/2022

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Probation with conditions issued in CA, 2002

updated on 07/24/2010

Probation with conditions means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The Bar chose not to suspend the lawyer but limited his or her ability to practice.

Merrisa’s comment:

“This was a status change of the incident below. It has been served.”

Interim suspension after conviction issued in CA, 2000

updated on 02/06/2013

This means the attorney temporarily lost his or her license to practice law while the State investigates whether the attorney should be disciplined. The suspension typically expires when the investigation is resolved.

Merrisa’s comment:

“This was the result of a domestic dispute between my former fiance and myself when I was the victim. I called the cops, he got to them first and lied to them about who did what. The police ordered me out of my car and I told them no. The state bar suspended me for failure to follow lawful orders of a police officer, later re-instating me. None of this was the result of the practice of law and no clients were ever harmed.”
