Almost butchered my prenup

I hired Jing to prepare a prenup agreement for me via the MetLife legal plan. When she sent me the first draft, I saw many typos, including some stranger's name instead of mine on one of the last pages. My guess, she copied and pasted parts into the prenup and did not even care to fully check it. ...A major red flag that I missed. I went over the prenup and asked her to fix all the typos I found, which she did. Then everything seemed okay. However, after we already signed the documents, I re-read the prenup and noticed a few more typos, and one major mistake which was altering the meaning of the sentence in a very important paragraph. The paragraph described an important condition which depended on the duration of our marriage and Jing had written, quote, "no matter how long the parties GET married," instead of writing, "no matter how long the parties remain married" or something like that. Anyone, who knows a bit of English, will understand that this sentence makes no sense and may cause some problems in court. So I emailed Jing about this. And surprise, surprise... Instead of apologizing and offering solutions, she just said that the sentence is correct and when I disagreed she just cut the conversation very fast by saying, quote: 'After the signing, my work under your MetLife coverage is over. If you need more assistance, I need to charge separately, and my rate is $395/hr.' Needless to stay, I said good-bye to Jing and had to look for another attorney to help fix this mistake. I strongly suggest to stay away from this attorney. I would also be very skeptical of the positive reviews, as, at least in my experience, Jing put pressure to leave her a good review after her 'work' was done.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
