Nancy Ann Nugent

Ms. Nugent is a very experience and capable attorney. However she takes on more work than she can handle resulting in very poor customer service. I have two other friends who have used her with similar results. She took my retainer, disappeared on several personal trips, sending me into a panic da...ys before my hearing date and then reappeared the night before trying to rush through my case at the last minute. When I received my bill it was 2 months late, and about double the actual time she put into the case. Her billing practices are unethical and she needs to be watched like a hawk for every minute she spends on your case. My recommendation is NOT to hire this attorney. At best, she should be used as an hourly consultant where you have a phone bill as evidence of her time spent.

I hired Ms. Nugent to represent me in a complex family law case in the San Francisco Bay Area, that later involved several other counties, and state, and eventually secured a successful relocation motion. She came well - referred by many area attorneys, current clients, and 1 judicial officer. To s...ay that she plays well with others, in at times what can seem like an insular legal environment, is an understatement. You have to get along with your colleagues, and have a good reputation, and Ms. Nugent does. She is professional, experienced, and knowledgeable beyond words. Immediately, I felt that she understood the complexities, and nuances of my case, and was emotionally supportive. That's not to say she sugar - coated anything. Quite the contrary. She gave stern, and necessary directives, including referring me to a team of professionals - accountant, child therapist, forensic evaluator - who provided important components to my eventual success. What stood out the most when I first met Ms. Nugent, is her focus away from the parents, and to the children of our family, their day to day lives, schedules, preferences, emotional and social well - being, etc. It really was all about the children, in so many ways that no other attorney besides Ms. Nugent made known. She was on my side as an advocate, but no hired gun. She did what was right always, and everyday. She gave trustworthy, and knowledgable advice, and had on hand a handful of other consultants when something was out of her legal scope, but otherwise important to my case. Finally, while she initially charged an expensive retainer, the totality of her fees were far less in the long run than any other attorney I hired. Why? When you know what you're doing, you don't make costly legal mistakes, or escalate a case that does not need to be escalated. You are well - paced, and that saves time and money. Besides, to me the health and safety of my children are of the upmost importance, and I was happy I was able to secure their safety in such a way. Ms. Nugent did not represent me when it came to the financial aspect of my case, but referred me to a colleague, which partitioning of cases is more common than not, so my experience with her is for family law only. (My financial attorney was terrific too.)

Nancy represented me while my case was in California. It was a complex case involving motions in three different states. Of the five attornys involved in my case, Nancy was the most insightful and effective. Immediately upon retaining Nancy and appearing in court with her, the tide in my case ...turned in my favor. It was eventually resolved in my favor and I credit Nancy for setting the tone that lead to winning custody. Although she is reasonably empathic, Nancy is not an attorney who tells you what you want to hear, Her focus is entirely on getting the best result for the children. She is respected by the courts in Marin County this reason. She also has the reputation of "not taking flakes". If she takes your case, you will enjoy instant credibility with the court that is yours to build a case upon or to loose. I believe Nancy only accepts cases that are referred by other attorneys at this time, so get a respected lawyer to refer you to her office.
