Sharon E. Alkire

I was referred to Sharon through Emily Doskow and was happy to find a lawyer willing to work with my unusual divorce case. Getting married in another country is usually a union supported here in the California legal system, however the intricacies of same sex unions abroad require research and tenac...ity. As differing nations have different laws in place that are changing rapidly, my ex-spouse decided to contest the divorce on the basis that it wasn't a real marriage. Sharon conducted research that I could present in court to the judge saying that this was not so, and although the proceedings have yet to conclude I have a much stronger, cleaner case for it. I felt that she is on my side and wants to see the case through even when things get tricky; her amiability is one of her strongest assets and I appreciate her straightforwardness. Working with Sharon gave me enough experience in the matter that when my savings dried up and I could longer afford a lawyer, I had enough of a footing to stand on my own, which is not an easy thing to do in the California Family Law system. I am grateful to have been able to work with her.
