This attorney saved my home!

I retained Mr. Hughey to help me save my home. First he stopped the foreclosure process, then he was successful in working out a compromise that allowed me to modify my loan terms and save my home. This can sometimes be a slow process, because it involves alot of phone work and such, but the result... was fantastic. I highly recommend this attorney.

Thank you. This came a year after my whole life almost shut down, at times I thought permanently, as I suffered through Kaiser's health care and approval system awaiting an operation that restored me to 90% of my original mobility and allowed me to accomplish what I did for you. Call me anytime.

Hardworking and Dedicated Attorney that I Would Recommend to My Best Friends!

I used Harmond to defend me on an illegal/wrongful eviction 2 years ago. I found him dedicated to my situation, even willing to make housecalls when I suffered an injury and could not visit his office downtown. He has lots of connections and seems to know everyone, as I found when we went to court.... I believe his years of experience and wisdom helped me though my hard time with my housing situation. Plain spoken and kind. I would not hesitate to recommend him to my family or best friends.

Does not communicate with client.

I hired Mr. Hughey for an eviction case about a year ago. Our business relationship was ruined from his lack of communication with me as a client. He never updates you, or follows up when he says he will. Not a dependable lawyer, I spent money and time for Mr. Hughey's services and nothing was accom...plished.

I try not to call and write a client unless in is necessary. I do not waste billable time. This client was relatively unsophisticated and craved constant explanation of everything, but did not expect to be billed for that. Knowing this, and the client's means, I limited my time to what I thought they could afford without losing efficiency. There was some confusion in communication, however, and they grew impatient despite my best efforts to communicate with them. I am also wary of anyone who states "nothing was accomplished" despite the obvious evidence of work done. Unsophisticated clients expect an attorney to accomplish immediate miracles often, and do not appreciated that the time spent of a client's case is the attorney's commodity. Time used for communication and preparation of matters, including travel time if part of an hourly agreement, is work. Everyone expects to be paid for their work, and that includes attorneys. I work with what I am given, and sometimes it completely dictates my handling of the case. In this case, there was no simple eviction, but a convoluted and complex mix of mistakes on the owner's part that lead to no quick or easy solution.

Real Estate Litigation Savior!

I contacted Mr. Hughey through a trusted friend. I am a property owner in San Francisco with several millions of dollars in real estate holdings. Despite the couple of reviews that I have seen here saying that Harmond is not good with communication, I found just the opposite to be true. He communi...cated with me and my staff promptly by either email, text, fax or phone. I found him very responsive and knowledgeable as to real estate law and to detailed litigation. I cannot understand how anyone could say a bad word against him unless they are inexperienced with dealing with busy attorneys, especially one's with partial disabilities. My Father had back problems like Harmond's, so I am familiar with the challenges this adds to performance, not that I ever noticed other than he was limited in the amount of my files he could carry at some times. I support strongly any professional who can perform above-average work and juggle their own physical limitations. Beyond real estate, too, I referred him to a few of my friends who had business and contract issues in Silicon Valley and they reported back to me that his advice, review and negotiation skills were without merit. He also charged me a very competitive hourly rate for his work. He has a very diverse background and a litany of stories from his years of practice. This man saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars with his expertise and his skill. I'm sold on him as an A+ attorney who started off his career at one of the largest firms in the state before opening his own practice. I only wish I knew more attorneys like him.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2011.

Discipline, Probation; no Actual Suspension issued in CA, 2011

updated on 09/19/2019

This sanction means the attorney had a suspension placed on hold (and ultimately removed) by complying with certain requirements.

Julius’s comment:

“Accepted voluntary discipline after admitting that I had relied upon good friend who referred to me the 3 clients who were her friends. They complained about my delay on their cases. All other clients notified directly by me. I later discovered those 3 where never properly notified by agent. Lay in bed 7 months in chronic sciatic condition until I received the second of two back operations with Kaiser approval. Now I am considered disabled and have mobility problems, but continue to work.”
