Mr. Barteau graduated from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, California, after completing his undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Born in Truro, England, his family moved to California in 1978. He grew up in Tulare, California, graduating from Tulare Western High School. Since 2001, he has made his home in the north state, where he currently lives with his wife Charli and their four children.
He has worked in commerical and residential real estate, information technology, and higher education. Mr. Barteau's professional experience includes an internship with the State of California Attorney General's office and an externship with the United States Attorney's Office, Civil Division. Mr. Barteau worked as an Associate Attorney at a well-respected local law firm, but left the firm in 2004 to establish the Law Office of Maximilian G. Barteau in Paradise, California. In 2013, Mr. Barteau joined the Carter Law Office in Chico, California.
In additional to practicing law, Mr. Barteau is highly involved in the communities of Paradise and Chico, and volunteers several hours each week to various nonprofit organizations and boards, including the Butte Youth Soccer League, Paradise Performing Arts Center, Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce, and Paradise Youth Sports and Family Center (Paradise Community Village project), which aims to provide parks and affordable housing to all area residents.
Mr. Barteau also owned and operated two restaurants from 2001 to 2012 and brings that practical knowledge of business to his law practice.
