I believe you are misinformed regarding having a physical presence in the U.S. before an employer can start your GC process. Having said that...

I don't see a problem with status if you were to marry your USC boyfriend. You can file to adjust status. I would file the I-765 as this one...

Follow the dates on the approval notice. The change status is effective depending on the start date the petitioner chose on the petition.
