Horrific experience with Tara

Tara Berta showed up 25 minutes late to a 30-minute consultation—an astonishing level of disregard, especially considering the urgency and emotional weight DVRO cases carry. I had already completed the full intake with CROC, yet she appeared entirely unfamiliar with my case. Rather than taking the... time to ask clarifying questions or review the factual basis of my claims, she immediately assumed that filing a DVRO after the other party had filed would be viewed as retaliatory and put me at a disadvantage. That assumption not only ignored the timeline and facts I had documented, but also echoed the opposing counsel’s narrative with disturbing ease. It was clear she preferred making snap judgments over doing even minimal due diligence. I also asked for a list of family law attorneys. She said she’d send it after our call. That email never arrived. I came to CROC hoping for trauma-informed support in navigating the filing process. What I got was a rushed, dismissive, and surface-level consultation that reaffirmed my suspicion: CROC’s approach is disturbingly cookie-cutter, and not built to hold the complexity survivors bring with them. I ended up filing on my own. And the court granted my request—something Tara had implied was unlikely or even inappropriate. Given my experience, her 2.3 Avvo rating is fully merited. And I’m clearly not alone in that conclusion. It is deeply troubling that someone so disengaged holds a supervisory role at a clinic meant to serve survivors. If you are seeking thoughtful, informed, and respectful support—look elsewhere. Even Gen AI tools can offer you more precision, accountability, and basic follow-through than what I experienced from Tara Berta.

Tara is very responsive, thorough, knowledgeable, and professional and will be upfront about your legal situation. She made me feel like someone understood and would defend me. Her professional service inspires confidence and admiration and makes her perfect in representing you in court. I would re...commend Tara. She is not only an awesome lawyer, she understands and feels for her clients needs. I hope you don't need her services, but if you do, see Tara.
