In some cases, a software publisher such as Microsoft, Autodesk, Vero, SIemens, CNC or others will demand a software licensing audit review where a company (many times an architect, engineering or desi ... gn firm) will request you audit all of your computers, laptops and servers for incidents of installations of their products. Many times a request to conduct an audit will come from the Business Software Alliance ("BSA") in Washington D.C. which uses regional law firms to conduct audits and settle cases. For example, a firm like the Venable may send you a demand letter. At any rate, in this case we were able to convince Autodesk that there was no unlicensed software usage and were able to negotiate a "certificate of compliance" to get the case closed with no other infringement penalties.
