Barbara Holian Mejia

Barbara Mejía is a retired certified specialist in Estate Planning, Probate & Trust Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.  She has represented all ages and relationships in the community: children, grandchildren, siblings, parents, grandparents, active friends with interest, trust companies, and private professional fiduciaries.  Barbara has a unique expertise in working with families facing elder care issues.  She now serves as Attorney-in-Fact, Conservator, and Trustee for clients who want her fiduciary services.

With elders, including those in her personal family, Barbara has experienced the reality of undue influence, elder financial abuse, dementia, suicide, cancer, terminal illness, and use of heroic medical measures.  With the “sandwich generation”, she has personally experienced the reality of helplessness, hopelessness, physical and mental exhaustion, greed, control, and rivalry.  She has spent endless hours with clients who were dying, sorting through their fears, frustrations, and expectations.  She has been with many of her clients as they made the transition from this life to the next.

Barbara has seen a myriad of proposals work out in the lives of her clients, some for their good, some to their detriment.  The struggle has led her to reach out and share her experiences with the belief that with knowledge comes understanding not of one’s own viewpoint but of the larger story in the life of the elder.  Her hope is that with understanding, families will make choices that benefit their loved ones in support of whatever process is needed to protect them.  Barbara has a passion for teaching and empowering individuals to make decisions that create environments for their loved ones to live life to its fullest.
