Dropped me in the middle of difficult custody case!

I retained jennifer in may 2018 for child support and after child support was issued than we were going to file modification of visiting. I was on welfare getting $800 cash aid and my ex was making over $10,000 a month and madera county issued $0 child support. I retained ms. Morrison with borrowed... $ and explained i needed child support asap to survive w the custody arrangements. It took her 7 months to get it in court and then got sick and couldn't make it so it got continued for longer. Before even getting order for child support my retainer was gone! It took 2 months to get my 1st payment and by then we were in court for visitation modification and shes wanting another retainer of $4000. I was 3 yrs behind in property taxes, 2000$ pge bill, and owed way more than that to others, and the whole time shes wanting a 2nd retainer im thinking to myself what would of happened if she would of jumped on the child support issue back in may (when receiving the 1st $4000 ) and i would of been receiving child support for the last 7 months i might of had the capabilities to pay her another retainer. I did pay $1000 out of pocket on jan 16 2019 and my ex was ordered to pay 2000$ of her fees in jan 2019 but in payments and she didnt like payments. I missed her phone call on jan 18 2019 and jan 22 2019 she dropped me for lack of payment and lack of communication. She is now very friendly with my ex husband when he goes in to periodically to pay his payments . Not to mention she dropped me in the middle of a 3111 investigation, and says i still owe $7000.

Although this post was made anonymously, I know who this client is and was expecting she might post a negative review based upon her statements to my office when I stated I could no longer represent her. Unfortunately, the facts are misstated. I was retained to handle two separate issues, modification of child support and modification of child custody. I always explain to my clients that the initial retainer may not be sufficient to handle all work, and that was definitely the case here. There were difficulties getting information and/or cooperation from this client and the opposing party retained an aggressive attorney, which only increases the work required and, therefore, the fees. I obtained an excellent support order for this client where the Court basically granted all of my requests relating to how support should be calculated, but I have no control over how long it takes for the opposing party to pay the support. And yes, the hearing was continued once due to my illness, for 2 weeks. Although I am sympathetic to this client's financial situation, I still must charge for my services and cannot be expected to work for free. This client had an EXTREMELY important mediation appointment relating to custody and we had a telephonic meeting scheduled so I could prepare her. She did not answer the phone when I called (even though we discussed the meeting the day before) so I called her repeatedly throughout the weekend (my personal time) and she still did not answer the phone. I even disclosed my home phone number when calling hoping that she would see that it was me and return the call. To this date, she never called me to speak with me about that mediation appointment, which was absolutely critical to her case. I was required to file a formal motion with the Court seeking my removal as her attorney due to her failure to respond and/or cooperate. I cannot represent a client if they do not participate with me and allow me to advise them. Although I had no obligation to do so, because I did care about her circumstances and felt badly for her that she had not been prepared for mediation, I offered to reduce her bill by several thousand dollars. This client's statement that I am "very friendly" with her ex husband when he makes his payments is absolutely false. I have had NO contact with this gentleman other than when in Court and was not even aware that he had hand delivered his payments to my office until I asked my employees after reading this post. Finally, when I last met with this client at our last hearing, we discussed the status of her account and although she expressed having financial difficulties, she did not complain or raise any issue regarding the fees that had been charged. I wish this client well, however, I am responsible for providing the best representation I can for my clients, which I take very seriously; I cannot do that if my client does not cooperate, or even respond/communicate with me, especially at critical stages of the case. Subnote: After writing the response to this post, I appeared in Court to have myself removed as this client's attorney. The client was present. After Court, we had a heartfelt conversation and I told this client that I cared about her situation, and that if she got into trouble, that she could call me with questions, at no charge. She hugged me and I wished her well.

Her way or No way

Jennifer Morrison likes to do things her way. She doesn’t consider options if it’s not her idea. I hired her thinking she would know best. I wanted to dispute the financial support, but she chose to focus on custody and visitations. My ex-husband didn’t have an attorney. He filed all his paperwork hi...mself. He got every thing he wanted. In the end I feel this lawyer didn’t help me at all. I wasted money and time when I could have done my own paperwork.

I'm very sorry that the reviewer feels this way and wish he or she would have discussed his or her concerns with me. It sounds like custody and visitation was the issue at hand, however, if it was or is appropriate to address financial issues, I ALWAYS address that issue. Again, if this reviewer had discussed his or her concerns with me, I would hope I could have made it more clear as to the process. If this client wishes to contact me, I welcome that!
