Avoid avoid not recommended

I could not agree more with the other clients who gave this attorney negative feedbacks. I too unfortunately retained Mr. Peter's services several months ago for an employment matter. I was told that Mr. James J. Peters was a good attorney if you could get past his communication and ego problems. Mr.... James Peters had several months almost a year to prepare for the case. I found that every time I spoke to Mr. Peters it was like he was hearing the details of the case for the first time all over again. At depositions Mr. Peters was basically clueless as to the details and pertinent information about my case. I basically had to hand feed information to him as the hearings went along. Mr. James refused most of the information that I gave him and acted like he knew everything which he did not. He told me I had a weak case and he just repeated what my opponent said!, Mr. Peters was basically clueless again as to the facts of the case and abandoned my case without a notification for months and he told me eventually "your case is not worth pursuing". Faced with this situation I had to hire another attorney and it was a very good move, things now are much better, thanks to the efforts of my new attorney a nice 6-figure settlement has been secured and it is in the way to me within a couple of weeks. I hope others will learn from my lesson. Hiring Mr. Peters is a waste of time and money, I do not recommend this attorney at all.

terrible

The incompetence and unprofessionalism of this lawyer warrant the time and effort to write this review. I retained James Jeffery Peters for an employment matter, I was totally unaware of his incompetency and his total disregard to client's interests. First James encouraged me to hire him promising me... very favorable results saying that "your case is really very strong" but after signing the retainer agreement James made a few claims that he "was working on the case" and "everything was okay", however after a few months I did not see any sign that he had been working on my case, actually he appeared clueless about many essential facts about the case. He ignored my countless attempts to reach him, he didn't return my phone calls or emails for several months, then suddenly he said he wanted to settle my case which he originally described as "very strong case" for a pittance. My experience with him consisted of James stating one thing to me but doing another, and not being responsive to my inquiries, failure to file necessary and time sensitive claims, serious misinformation about the case and lack of diligence, and breaking his initial promise to get a decent settlement for me. Actually my strong case was completely ruined by him because he failed to file time-sensitive claims and he presented the case facts selectively, he gave no explanation to his failure to file time-sensitive claims or why he presented the case facts selectively. All I received from James and his law office was just lots of excuses, and I was left to suffer alone silently. James Peters has been primarily interested in easy and quick money for himself and he showed total disregard to my interest as a client and to my feelings as a human being. just terrible, I feel for anyone even my worst enemy that hires him.

Ethics and Intelligence - A Lethal Combination

Going through discrimination litigation is overwhelming, daunting, and, at times, paralyzing. Jim was not only stellar in the legalities and strategies of my case, he had the awareness of the impact on me mentally and emotionally. He has a tenacity and creativity in getting to the crux of an is...sue circumventing and putting to rest in short order the "distractions" that the Defense team would implement to waste time (and money!). Jim brings to his clients all that we deserve and need in an attorney.

Horrible attorney

Avvo doesn't offer zero stars, so I am giving James one star just to have my feedback about him posted. Honestly, James J. Peters deserves no stars or points at all since he turned my life into hell while he was my attorney for an employment matter. I really couldn't find anything positive to say... about him. I have been one of his clients and I do agree with the other clients who gave him negative reviews but I would like to add that in my case not only he accomplished absolutely nothing for me but actually because of his rudimentary knowledge of the law and laziness I lost so much money and faced serious problems with the employer. For months, he didn't return my phone calls or emails in order to keep me guessing about the case status, In contrast with before I signed the retainer agreement with his law firm. Soon after signing the retainer agreement I realized that all James really cares about is his personal financial gain and all of his interactions with either me or the other side (the employer) are tailored to serve this purpose, he did very little work so he did not know the most essential facts about the case, he often had to ask shamelessly the opposing attorney "what had been done last?"! and "what should be done next?"!, he didn't send required documents for a long time while the clock on a filing was running and my statute of limitations was expiring and even when he finally realized that he had to send, he sent the wrong documents, many critical documents were sent way too late. He seemed lazy and irresponsible, he wanted to settle the case for much less than it is worth to get quick money into his pocket and he did not care about what hardship he is inflicting on me as a client. He missed many hearings and is not the most honest attorney in town, he concealed many important facts about the case from me in an effort to make me accept the bad settlement. I had three other attorneys review my case and each one of them independently was more than willing to represent me because they thought the case was so straightforward and strong and is worth a huge amount of money if handled correctly and honestly. I retained James J. Peters and it was my biggest mistake. One really has to choose an attorney wisely especially for important cases. James without a doubt deserves 0 out of 10 as an attorney.

Not recommended, avoid like the plague

The worst attorney, avoid like the plague, I have been a client of James Peters for a wrongful termination matter, unfortunately he turned out to be the most incompetent attorney and one of my worst experiences ever. Months after hiring him, I was shocked to learn he actually did minimal work (almost... no work at all) on my case, and his updates on my case turned out to be false, no actual progress, definitely James is not the most honest attorney you could find, all he actually cared about is money, just wanted to settle my case quickly for a pittance. He wasn't helpful or supportive at all at anytime, he just took my money for nothing, he rarely answered my questions, he never returned my phone calls or emails, then suddenly he wanted to settle my straightforward strong case for a pittance (a fraction of the amount which I eventually got when I hired another attorney and fired him). My new attorney resolved the case favorably and got me a substantial settlement in less than 2 months. When I confronted James with these facts, he claimed that he just "overlooked" some basic facts about the case, and "did not have enough time to actually research my case well". My honest advice: avoid this attorney like the plague, there are much better attorneys out there.

It is unclear whether this review is meant for a different attorney with a name similar to mine, is automatically generated "spam" or is being posted to discredit our firm by another. First, I have not represented anyone named "Pat" (nor a "Patricia", "Patrick", or anyone with similar names) in recent years, so this does not appear to be our client. Second, we work on a contingency fee and rarely take any money from clients, so I would not have taken "money for nothing," because we do not take any money unless we settle the case, so this is not likely one of our former clients. Third, at no time have I spoken to a client about "overlooking" facts or not having enough time to research their case. I certainly would have remembered this if it had happened in the last "1-6 months", as stated on this review. For these reasons, it appears this individual has posted this review to the wrong account and unfortunately there is no way for Avvo to remove it or confirm its validity.
