We have had minimal dealings with the legal system prior to our granddaughter being placed in the foster care system. We quickly found out that we had no legal status in the courts and had no knowledge of how the process worked. As foster parents, the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) ...job is to protect the rights and confidentiality of the biological parents. We absolutely didn’t understand the process, didn’t know what our rights were, or how to protect our granddaughter. It would be an understatement to say we were scared to death.
