Professional and Responsive

My business failed and I was pursued by 2 debtors for payment. Initially I hired a different attorney who failed to act or correspond. In frustration, I contacted Gregory Fitzgerald. My initial phone consult with him was both pleasant and professional. He treated me with understanding and respect. H...e clearly laid out what he could do and how he would proceed. I hired Mr Fitzgerald and am thankful I did. He, and his staff, are professional, responsive, and thorough. I actually hired his firm a second time for another issue and once again, I was not disappointed. His firm negotiated a reasonable settlement that was acceptable to me, and, his fees were exactly as he told me they would be. If you find yourself in what seems to be an impossible financial situation, I highly recommend contacting Gregory Fitzgerald.

Student loand

This law firm is a joke. All they do is take your money and do nothing. They have been jerking me around for months. From Sam Foster to April Inlow to Dyana and now Julie. Now suddenly I get a letter saying they can no longer represent me. No explanation as to why or what. Don’t waste your money with... this incompetent bunch of flunkies,

Disappointed

This firm has done nothing for me except take my money. I have received 2 phone calls with empty promises to help. Now I have to represent myself in court because they told me 2 weeks before the hearing that they couldn't negotiate with the debtor that took my money. They are still billing me on a m...onthly basis.

Frustrated client

I was referred to Fitzgerald Campbell by another firm to help me negotiate a reduction in a balance owed to another attorney in Alabama. The balance was based on a judgment against me of approximately $6,000 resulting from a minor traffic accident in 1992. After paying the Alabama attorney well over... $6,000 since then, I still owed him a balance of over $5,000 with interest. I was laid off from work in 2013 and I could no longer afford the installments, so I offered the Alabama attorney $1,000 to settle the debt. He refused and sent me a letter stating that he would not take less than $3,000 payable immediately. I decided to use Mr. Fitzgerald to represent me to negotiate the $3,000 down that I owed to the other attorney. When I inquired about his services, I was contacted by Mr. Fitzgerald's legal assistant. The assistant represented herself as the person negotiating the $3000.00 fee down for me. Per her request, I faxed over several bills and letters sent to me from the Alabama attorney including the last letter requesting $3,000. We discussed the terms of representation and the agreement was that the monthly retainer fee for Mr. Fitzgerald would be 1% per month of the amount being negotiated. Upon reaching a settlement of an amount less than $3,000, I would pay a total of 30% of the amount reduced. I agreed to the terms and a 1% retainer fee of $30 was debited from my account for 3 months. A settlement of $1,800 was reached after 3 months, so I paid that amount to the Alabama attorney. I planned on paying Mr. Fitzgerald 30% for the savings of $1,200 (3000-1800), which is $360. To my dismay, I received a bill from Mr. Fitzgerald’s accountant (Anna Marie Fitzgerald) for $977.58. I called the accountant and explained that the agreement was for 30% of the amount saved on the $3,000 ($360). She referred to an amount on one of the older letters I faxed to them from the Alabama attorney, which had an amount of over $5,000 owed. The accountant based Mr. Fitzgerald’s fee on that amount instead. I reiterated that the agreed upon retainer fee I had been paying was 1% of $3,000 ($30), and the final payment should be $360, not $977.58. She told me she would review it again with Mr. Fitzgerald and she would contact me by the end of the next business day. She didn’t contact me, so I contacted her a few days later. She told me that they would be willing to come down on my fee to $650.00. I explained again that I shouldn’t have to pay more than the original agreement. I reminded her of the last letter I faxed to them from the Alabama attorney requesting $3,000 to settle the debt. I retained Mr. Fitzgerald’s services because I was assured by his legal assistant (via email) that $3,000 was the amount being negotiated. I received one more correspondence from the accountant stating that she would talk to Mr. Fitzgerald about the fee again and get back to me the following day. That was on February 2nd. I still haven’t heard from Mr. Fitzgerald’s accountant and I am very frustrated by the unprofessional way they have handled this issue. I would not recommend their services.

Hi Kathryn. Please know that we are very disappointed by the fact you are frustrated. Also know that I am willing to personally speak to you at any time. I note that your frustration was not with the results obtained, but the billing. We realize that a miscommunication can occur at any time and rather than rely on a strict interpretation of the written agreement we generally consider any reasonable request. Unfortunately it seems we failed to promptly do so in your case. Due to the frustration and inconvenience you experienced, please know that I have waived all settlement fees. Greg Fitzgerald

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
