"..extremely saddened and dissappointed.."

I was in custody and being charged with a felony DUI. My mother cleaned out my bank account and even had to add some of her own money to hire Coffey & Coffey. They're brothers, and one handles the initial meeting and consultation, while the other one will show up at court. Mr. Coffey told me that the... court's offering me 16 months in State Prison. He told me that he'd probably be able to get that offer lowered, but he'd have to bring me back in a month, meanwhile I'd have to remain in custody. He refused to answer questions, wouldn't answer any phone calls and continued this charade for three months before i realized he wasn't fighting for me the way a private attorney should. I told my mom to fire him since I'd probably get better help from a public defender. I waited an additional month or so in jail before a court appointed attorney accepted my case and was ready to represent me in court. Upon speaking with this public defender, I came to realize that I was misinformed by Mr. Coffey as to the sentence I was facing. The offer was never 16 months prison... It was actually only 120 days county jail, which I had already served and then some. Although I was happy be getting out that day, I was also extremely saddened and disappointed by Mr. Coffey's tactics in court. I was lied to, and it cost me all the money I had to find out. It would appear that Mr. Coffey is intelligent and knows the law very well, but instead of using this knowledge to help people, he manipulates them and gets paid by making things as easy for him as possible. I've heard the stereo-typical opinions and names people give to lawyers, and although it's not always true, Coffey & Coffey certainly do perpetuate it by giving lawyers a bad name.
