Richard Lewis Barnett

I routinely send evaluation forms to my clients upon the conclusion of bankruptcy proceedings. I have over a hundred responses without an adverse rating or remark. Some are available on my firms website. All are available for review. The reason is simple. I care about my clients and I take care of them. 

I was born in Berkeley, California, and attended San Jose State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 1976. I was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Fraternity and was formerly employed by a certified public accountancy firm pending law school admission that same year. I received my law degree from Pepperdine University in 1979 and was admitted to the California State Bar that year. I am also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and all United States District Courts in California. My practice focuses on debtor and creditor issues both in and out of bankruptcy proceedings. I attained an AV rating (5 star peer review) by Martindale Hubbell and I am a California State Bar Certified Bankruptcy Specialist. I I have been responsible for the reorganization of several publicly traded companies. I am also an appointed Mediator for United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California.

I am a City Council member and former Mayor and chairman of the Finance Committee for the City of Villa Park as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Fire Authority.

My current and former professional associations include the Federal Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, and the Business Litigation, Tax and Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Sections of the Orange County Bar Association. I was a former Savings and Loan board member. I am a member of the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum and a former Director and Board Member of the Newport Harbor Bar Association. From a community service perspective I am a member of Villa Park Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow within that organization and a member of the Orange Chapter of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. I hold a pilot’s license and I am active in local community affairs, including the founding of the Villa Park Marine Thanksgiving program, which can be reviewed on the web.
