Mahbod Khalilpour

Mahbod “Mike” Khalilpour is a Partner with Resnick & Louis, P.C. whose practice focuses on construction law and litigation, commercial and business disputes, real estate matters, contractor licensing and contracts, and outside general counsel representation.

Mike represents property owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and other construction industry participants in matters involving construction defects, contractual disputes, payment claims, mechanics’ liens and stop payment notices, real estate and development disputes, and proceedings involving the California Contractors State License Board. He also advises contractors and other businesses on contracts, risk management, regulatory compliance, business operations, and strategies designed to avoid disputes before they develop into litigation.

As a litigator, Mike has served as first-chair counsel in trials, arbitrations, mediations, and other contested proceedings. His experience includes complex construction and commercial disputes, real estate matters, business litigation, contractor payment claims, commercial debt collection, and judgment enforcement. He approaches litigation with an emphasis on understanding the client’s business objectives, identifying the issues that materially affect exposure, and developing a practical strategy for resolving the dispute.

Mike has practiced law in California since 2009. He is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Mike earned his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Economics from the University of California, Irvine in 2004. He received his J.D. from Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law in 2009, graduating in the top 5% of his class. While at Chapman, he served as Managing Editor of the Chapman Law Review, was named to the Dean’s List, received CALI Awards in Torts, Contracts, and Civil Procedure, and received the William Stallworth Scholarship Award for Excellence.

In 2011, Mike earned an LL.M. in Taxation, with honors, from Georgetown University Law Center, where his studies focused on the taxation of business entities and tax-free reorganizations. His tax and business background complements his litigation practice by providing additional perspective when disputes involve closely held businesses, business transactions, ownership interests, or financially complex issues.

Mike was selected to the Southern California Rising Stars list each year from 2019 through 2022.
