Heather Janeane Higson

Heather J. Higson has over 25 years of experience litigating medical malpractice and personal injury cases. She was an honored recipient of the 2014 Trial Lawyer of the Year in Medical Malpractice awarded by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association. She has represented infants, children and adults suffering from a wide range of severe and catastrophic injuries.

Ms. Higson has practiced on both sides of medical malpractice cases, which provides her with valuable strategy insight. She represented physicians and hospitals during the first 10 years of her legal career, and then discovered her true passion, representing the victims of medical malpractice and their loved ones.

Ms. Higson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Middlebury College in 1983. Ms. Higson relocated to California and attended Pepperdine University School of Law. She attended an International Law Program in London during the Fall of 1987. She received her Juris Doctor degree in May 1989 and became a member of the State Bar of California the same year.

Ms. Higson practiced as an Attorney at Rushfeldt, Shelley & Drake from 1989 to 1991 focusing on medical malpractice defense representing physicians and hospitals. In 1991, she relocated to San Diego and represented the victims of medical malpractice, catastrophic automobile accidents and product defects.

Ms. Higson relocated to South Orange County in 1993. From 1993 to 1999, she was an Attorney at Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols in Santa Ana, handling a substantial medical malpractice defense case load representing physicians, hospitals and medical groups.

In 1999, Ms. Higson established the Law Office of Heather J. Higson and was entrusted with handling the medical malpractice and elder abuse cases of patients and their loved ones, in addition to personal injury and product defect cases for victims. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Higson and Sean M. Burke associated on a number of medical malpractice and elder abuse cases, and Ms. Higson formally joined the Law Offices of Sean M. Burke in 2006.

Ms. Higson has experience in every aspect of medical malpractice work, from case inception through discovery and trial. She takes a conservative approach to case selection, screening cases carefully with medical experts and applying her years of training, experience and intuition to each case evaluation. Maintaining an ethical and aggressive approach to practicing law is a goal that Ms. Higson has met year after year.

Ms. Higson is a member of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County Women Lawyers Association, Consumer Attorneys of California, and the CANHR Lawyer Referral Service.
