Timothy Frederick Shields

Tim Shields is a founding partner of George & Shields in Orange County, California.  For more than 30 years, Tim has represented business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, landlords, and executives statewide.  He maintains an active litigation and trial practice involving business, construction, real estate, trade secret, corporate, securities, investment, and employment matters. With the firm’s emphasis in cost effective dispute resolution, Tim is regularly engaged in arbitration, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution arenas.

Unlike most lawyers, Tim is a veteran of both the boardroom and the courtroom. As a business owner and entrepreneur himself, Tim understands the issues, concerns, and pressures of running a business. Tim serves as outside general counsel for dozens of companies, and is frequently asked to join board meetings, strategic planning sessions, and executive discussions where company stakeholders value his acumen, insights, and business judgment.

Tim’s presence in the community includes significant leadership and involvement. An active Rotarian for over 20 years, Tim founded the tax exempt Newport-Irvine Rotary Foundation and has been a key fundraiser. Tim is also a member of the prestigious Commodores Club in Newport Beach and has served as a director of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, and as chairman of numerous community events.  The California Senate recognized Tim for his leadership in the Boy Scouts where he continues to serve as an assistant scoutmaster and firearms instructor.

Tim studied finance and economics at Eastern Washington University where he received the school’s highest honor, the Wilson Medallion. In 1985, he received a law degree from Pepperdine University where he won Moot Court medals for both oral argument and brief writing. During that time, Tim worked as an extern with Justice Edward Wallin at the California Court of Appeals. Tim maintains an “AV-Preeminent” Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell (highest rating available for both legal ability and general ethical standards).  Tim is also an active investor and real estate lender. Married to Beth Shields since 1992, Tim resides in Newport Beach.
