Ms. Buckman, a City of Los Angeles employee, was terminated nine days after returning from CFRA/FMLA medical leave. Following a 15-day bench trial, the trial court found in her favor on her retaliation ... claim and two related wage claims, awarding statutory attorneys' fees. The City appealed. The Court of Appeal affirmed the retaliation judgment, holding that substantial evidence supported the finding that the City's stated reasons for termination were pretextual, and remanded the wage claims and fee award for further proceedings. The matter was resolved on remand by negotiated settlement. Total recovery, inclusive of damages, statutory fees, costs, and accrued interest: $2,310,651.82.
