G. Lauren Belger

I have been a zealous advocate, fighting for the rights of injured workers, for nearly two decades. I gained a wealth of experience working at one of the largest workers’ compensation firms in Southern California, where I not only learned how to juggle the demands of a large practice, but I learned the ins and outs of the workers’ compensation laws.  I am a Certified Legal Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California after a grueling, multi-year process.  In my many years of practice, my clients have received millions of dollars in settlements, with a recent settlement for over $500,000.  

As an active member of the California Applicants’ Attorney’s Association, I have championed for the rights of injured workers by meeting with legislators or their staff at the State Capitol to ensure the representatives elected by the voters have a full appreciation of the way the workers’ compensation laws impact my clients.

I also co-founded the organization’s Women’s Caucus, a committee that took a leading role in bringing to light biases that exist in the workers’ compensation laws. Lauren is also a member of the Regulations Committee, a group of volunteers dedicated to reviewing proposed changes to the workers’ compensation laws and advocating for improvements to those laws in an effort to protect the interests of all of California’s injured workers. I am also on the Membership Committee, Legislative Committee and Latino-Caucus Committee.

From 2013 to 2015, I was the President of the Inland Empire chapter of the California Applicants’ Attorney’s Association, a very important position requiring selecting speakers and topics to educate the local workers’ compensation community on various aspects of the law. I have spoken on numerous panels at seminars and conventions, often before large audiences, and have become a subject matter expert in various areas of the workers’ compensation laws.

I am a well-respected member of the Inland Empire workers’ compensation legal community and look forward to helping you navigate through what can be an extremely stressful and confusing time in your life.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT I AM A “LEGAL SPECIALIST”?

Everyone who “specializes” in representing injured workers is not necessarily a certified legal specialist recognized by the State Bar of California. To obtain formal recognition by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, I had to:

1. Pass a written examination in the field of Workers’ Compensation (it’s like a mini bar exam).
2. Practice law continuously for at least a five-year period, devoting at least 25% of my practice to workers’ compensation. 100% of my practice was devoted to workers’ compensation law so this was an easy one for me.
3. Demonstrate a “a broad-based and comprehensive” knowledge of the workers’ compensation laws, including “trial and appeals experience.” I had extensive trial and appellate experience.
4. Receive favorable evaluations by my peers and judges familiar with my work.

In addition to the above, to be a Certified Legal Specialist:

1. the State Bar Board of Legal Specialization had to approve my application before I could identify myself as a Certified Legal Specialist
2. I must re-certify every 5 years
3. I must take additional continuing legal education courses above and beyond that required by general, non-legal specialists, in the field. This requires a minimum of 36 hours of Legal Specialist Continuing Legal Education every three years. That means I am always up to date on changes taking place in the law.
