Kevin William Buckley

I am an experienced San Diego, CA patent attorney focusing on intellectual property, FDA regulatory, and technology transactions for healthcare and life sciences innovators. My clients include biotechnology, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, medical device, artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, medical diagnostics, and convergence technology businesses. The "convergence" often includes machine learning, deep learning, and complex algorithms. I have served in leadership positions in large law firms and have managed longstanding relationships with clients including multi-national corporations, private research institutes, and the nation's premier public university system. For many years, I was recognized nationally for my law practice by The Best Lawyers in America.  

Areas of focus include intellectual property protection, technology transactions, and FDA regulatory counseling; international patent preparation and prosecution; corporate and commercial transactions; technology transfer; technology licensing; IP due diligence; legal opinion drafting; litigation avoidance; and IP infringement litigation.

Prior to becoming an attorney, I was a biochemist and small business owner. I have also been an academic advisor to entrepreneurship centers at University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis, and UC San Diego. I was also an adjunct professor at WashU School of Law where I taught a Biotechnology Law intersession course.  

I received a BS in Biochemistry from UC San Diego where I was an undergraduate Research Scholar. I then received a JD from the University of Pittsburgh where I was Editor-in-Chief of the Pittsburgh Journal of Technology Law and Policy.
