Do not hire!

I found Damon Forney to be a crook. I was fighting a case that was going to trial. I explained to Damon I had not seen my child over 2 years even thought there was court order in place. Damon made feel like he care and would help me fight my case. That was far from the truth. I was told many times t...hat he would explain to the judge how the mother was blocking my visitation. The next thing I know Damon offers me a statement. I told Damon I had no interests in a settlement because I was afraid the mother's actions would go in unanswered. As well, there was not even a holiday schedule which is the norm in my case. I mention to Damon that I have a disability, and need help understand by provide a outline. It was ignored nor did he mention it to the courts. When I told Damon that not only I did not want the settlement but it would affect my ability to work and go to school. However, the mother of my son was doing the same thing. I was told that I was being selfish. How? By wanting to provide for my family and improve my education. Damon could not even remember my name. Don't be tricked by his words. He refused to built a case for me and give me the only option of taking his settlement. I even up losing my job. As well, my classes. When I asked for custody he tried to remove himself from my case with only a week before the trial. There was no tool that he provide that would even allow me to fight my case if I wanted to. Save your money and find a lawyer who will put you first. He won't forgot to bill you or add fees to your account without your approval. I was dropping off documents at his office. I had not made an appointment. I was drag into his office not know he would charge me for $300 for 30 minute to just talk to him about an issues that we already had talked about. Do not hire.

Unfortunately, in order for me to respond to this review, I would need Steven to waive confidentiality. However, when I asked Steven to waive his right to confidentiality to allow me to respond fully and truthfully to his allegations, he refused. As a result, I am unable to respond to the allegations in this review. My duty of confidentiality prevents me from responding fully to the negative information posted in this review, or any other review. I take my professional responsibilities as a lawyer seriously and I do my best to serve the needs of all of my clients. Being involved in a family law matter is emotionally taxing and I would not be as successful at it as I am unless I was highly skilled in dealing with the emotional needs of my clients. No level of skill, patience and empathy, however, can prevent an occasionally unsatisfied client and I am happy that I have had very few of them in this difficult and challenging practice over the last 20 years.

This attorney wanted me to go to trial just so he can set the date out until the trial dates. Meanwhile he did absolutely nothing on the details of the case. Untimely filings, ignored phone calls, blaming the judge and other clients for his poor performance seemed to be the norm. He did me a favor by... quitting the case after I inquired about the bill and decided to settle rather than trust him with a trial.

Great at billing

FAILED at advising me, FAILED at communicating, EXCELLED at billing I asked Mr. Forney to write me a seperation agreement which I had negotiated with my husband. I was on a time limit so I asked if he could provide this service quickly. He called me in & from that point on it was a sit down & shut... up meeting. He bagan to type some kind of agreement: I am STILL unclear of WHAT he provided because: 1. He never explained 2. He never advised me if it was a good move or not 3. He nver assured me that our agreement would stick - My husband had to give him advise on how to protect me from tax liability - I was with him for 90 minutes yet he charged me for 2 hours and 30 minutes in addition he charged me $300 per hour even though he agreed to $275 an hour - The document was not a seperation agreement as I asked him to provide I asked him to explain WHAT he provided and he still has not responded. Prior to that, I tried to point out his billing "error" and from that point on his staff treated me poorly and unprofessionaly despite the fact his bills were entirely wrong

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"I have opposed Mr.Forney in a pre-marital matter, and I have been a colleague for over a decade. He is one of the good lawyers that is able to zealously advocate for his clients, but also provide wise confidential counsel. While many lawyers (particularly in family law) are willing to profit from a client's initial frustration and litigate issues that have little chance of success (for a handsome hourly fee), Mr. Forney respects his clients enough to ensure that the cost-benefit analysis is considered. There is no 100% likelihood in family law. But at least Mr. Forney is honest with his clients about their chances and their objectives BEFORE they pay him thousands of dollars for a misguided motion. I feel that this trait adds to Mr. Forney's credibility with Courts; they do not see him arguing frivolous motions, so when he is arguing for his client, Courts know he's addressing a legitimate issue."
