Devin Robert Vaage

Devin R. Vaage (/v-oh-gee/) is an Intellectual Property Associate at Roeder & Broder LLP, where he assists clients in building and protecting their innovations through strategic patent and trademark prosecution. With a robust technical background and a client-centered approach, Devin advises inventors, startups, and global corporations on securing IP rights that support long-term business growth.

Devin has prepared, prosecuted, and successfully obtained U.S. and international patents in a wide range of industries, including mechanical systems, electrical engineering, software, and medical devices. Notably, he supported a startup medical device company in building and managing an expansive global patent portfolio consisting of nearly 100 international patent families.

His international practice includes regular collaboration with foreign associates across Europe, North America, and Asia, including jurisdictions such as the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, and South Korea. His comprehensive understanding of both U.S. and international IP systems allows him to tailor strategies to clients at every stage of development.

Before joining private practice, Devin gained hands-on experience through multiple intellectual property externships and clinics. At the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he examined complex applications in semiconductor and optics technologies, honing his skills in prior art searching, claim analysis, and office action drafting.

He later supported innovators at New Media Rights and Eastman McCartney Dallmann LLP, where he prepared patent applications across diverse industries—from consumer goods and electronics to medical devices—while also drafting infringement analyses, claim construction briefs, and litigation-related motions. These early experiences gave Devin a comprehensive perspective on the IP lifecycle, from initial patentability assessments to high-stakes enforcement.
