Laura Martin Gunn

An experienced prosecutor in San Diego, California, Laura Gunn recently completed a tenure of almost 25 years as a deputy district attorney. Over the course of her career, Laura Gunn handled numerous violent felony cases, including crimes against children. Firearms law became a major focus for her in later years.

Ms. Gunn created a countywide program in the DA’s office to prosecute the illegal acquisition and use of firearms by those who are prohibited from possessing them. She was also particularly active in the drafting of legislation relating to firearms and communicating with federal, state, and local agencies about firearm prosecution.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Gunn spent time as the deputy city attorney for San Diego. Before that, she was a graduate teaching assistant at San Diego State University, where she led speech communication courses.

Prosecutor Laura Gunn studied philosophy and political science as an undergraduate at the University of California. She continued her education in a master of speech communication program at San Diego State and ultimately earned her juris doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. In her personal life, she is a member of the Muirlands Middle School Site Governance Team and School Site Council and is a frequent volunteer driver with Mama’s Kitchen.
