What a wonderful man!

A friend needed to consult with a lawyer about how to flee her abusive husband and i was blessed to be able to get her in touch with Joe La Costa after she'd gotten some potentially fatal advice from another lawyer. Instantly responsive, thorough, and so kind, Mr. La Costa answered all her questions ...and thought of many different aspects she'd need help with and gave her step by step advice. May very well have saved her life. Very generous and helpful, he gave her quite a bit of time and it was pro bono (no fee, voluntary) and on a weekend. Just wanted to help her. Wonderful, wonderful man, I can't say enough how wonderful.

Do not hire Joseph La Costa as your attorney

Do not hire Joe La Costa or the person that works with him Carlos Paredes. They told us that they were going to stop the sale on the foreclosure. They promised we will be in the property for at least another year and then we will work on getting a loan modification at 1% rate for 40 years. He ch...arges almost $2000 a month due on the first. It is the 20th of the previous month and he starts sending bills. He does not answer the phone normally unless is to collect the money. He did not stop the sale. Then after the property was sold, he said we could be there at least 6 months and since the property supposedly was not sold "legally", he will have the sale reversed. Well, these are all lies. Do not trust him or Carlos Paredes. He is also part of the scam. We had a court day because eviction proceeding started and he never told us. The second time we had a hearing is when he told us to be there, at that point is when I realized that he was a scam and extremely disorganized. The judge on various occasion told him to have some ethics. He has an extremely bad reputation with the judges. The attorney of the other party told me that they had another case in process with that Joe La Costa and his client also got a judgement against him. Now, I have a judgement for almost $12,500 and he charged me almost $8000. One time he told me he needed to file a motion asap, I had to go to the bank and deposit $330 2 days before court. In court, judge said there was nothing filed. I took the money out of the bank account so the check will bounce. He never said anything about it because he knew he got caught with his lie. He just wanted to collect more money. Now, 3 months after the foreclosure sale, the police came to evict us. We have our personal belongings in storage and living in a hotel. With the moving and hotel, we already spent almost more than $3000. Oh by the way, he is still sending bills via email. He never gave us heads up about having to leave the property. When you speak with him or Carlos, they always tell you not to worry about it, that is part of the process when it is not. There are just empty promises that are never delivered. Be careful with them. You will end up losing your house and costing you thousands of dollars.

Like Going to Court With Rodney Dangerfield

I felt a little slimy with his tactics, but he got me the results I was seeking. Ge gets paid based on how long he can keep you in your home after a forclosure sale. Acts bumbling but the judges bend over for him because they feel he is incompetent and they don't want to see the client hurt.
