Lazy, high-volume mill. Gives dangerous advice and doesn't even read your file.

If your career is on the line and you need an actual advocate, do not waste your time here. Douglas Brewer runs a textbook high-volume mill looking for easy, open-and-shut cases, and he completely lacks the stomach for complex employment litigation against an institutional HR department. I barely ...wanted to take his call after he missed out first appointment. I should've stuck with my guy and skipped it because when we finally connected, the consultation was an absolute joke. It was glaringly obvious he didn’t even bother to read the basic intake information I submitted. In his rejection email, he explicitly claimed he couldn't help because I hadn't been "formally disciplined" yet. Had he actually spent two minutes reading my information instead of trying to speed-run the call, he would have seen that my intake clearly stated I had already been issued a fraudulent Final Written Warning. He couldn't even keep the bare minimum facts straight because he was too busy staging excuses about his workload. More alarmingly, his legal advice is flat-out dangerous. He shrugged off a high-stakes, bad-faith HR accommodation trap and told me to just sign it and "not worry about it." Anyone with a basic grasp of California labor law knows that employers weaponize signed agreements to manufacture a PIP or turn around and fire you "for cause." To make matters worse, he couldn't even answer basic, foundational questions about how FEHA protects invisible or spinal disabilities. He acts like an aggressive trial attorney on his website, but the second a case requires meticulous reading and standing up to a university research foundation, he folds. Total waste of time. Look for a real trial lawyer who actually knows the law and isn't just hunting for an easy payout.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards

  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
