Jonathan Lee Pettit

As a Registered Patent Attorney, I have more than 18 years of major law firm and in-house legal experience representing technology companies and focusing on the acquisition, management and commercialization of intellectual property assets. I counsel clients concerning worldwide patent strategy, and prepare U.S. and foreign patent applications in the electrical, computer, mechanical and e-commerce related arts. I perform infringement and validity analysis, draft legal opinion letters, and conduct due diligence and evaluate the scope and value of IP portfolios. I advise clients on identifying proprietary information, know-how and technology for trade secret protection.

I represent clients in complex IP litigation relating to patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, breach of contract, antitrust and unfair competition matters. I am involved in all phases of litigation including case management strategies, TROs and preliminary injunctions, Markman hearings, trial preparation, appeals and various forms of alternative dispute resolution.

I negotiate and draft technology license agreements including hardware, software and semiconductor manufacturing agreements, patent license and cross-license agreements, and joint venture development and marketing agreements.

Representative technologies include satellite communication systems, semiconductor chip manufacturing, computer hardware, software and network systems, Internet/e-commerce technology, analog and digital electronic circuits, medical devices (such as implantable defibrillators), electronic musical instruments, video receivers and imaging systems, voice messaging systems, electronic gaming devices and ink jet printers.

Prior to becoming an attorney, I was a Naval Flight Officer in the United States Navy where I accumulated over 1000 flight hours and 200 aircraft carrier landings flying the A-6 Intruder. My experience provided me the opportunity to develop outstanding management and leadership skills.
