Mr. Wilkens was born and raised in San Diego County. He went to college locally at Cal State San Marcos before attending graduate school at UC Irvine where he earned an MA in History. After graduate school, Mr. Wilkens returned to San Diego to earn a law degree at California Western School of Law. After graduating from law school and passing the bar exam, Mr. Wilkens worked for the California Department of Justice as a volunteer attorney, assisting state prosecutors in responding to post conviction writs and appeals. After leaving the Department of Justice, Mr. Wilkens worked briefly at the California Court of Appeal as a visiting attorney, conducting legal research and writing regarding largely criminal matters before starting his own law office.
