I'm a mom now

My father passed away in December 2012, he left no will or trust. As his only child, I had a mess to deal with, which added to my stress and grief. Because I did not have any kids myself, I had always planned to leave my estate to my niece aka Army girl. She is an Army Veteran, and served 2 tours o...f duty in Iraq. Of my 3 nieces and 2 nephews, she is the only one that has proven to me that she is responsible, and worthy of receiving my estate, which includes a home, a 401, and 2 vehicles. Army girl does not remember her father, as my sister divorced when she was 3 years old. My sister died when Army girl was in boot camp, and I was worried that this might cause her to not continue on the honorable path she was on. She not only continued, she shined. Then in her early 30's she discovered her father had passed away, before she could meet him. I have always wanted her to know that she is wanted, and I had thought about adoption for a long time. After dealing with my father's estate, I was concerned that she might have my mess to deal with. That's when I asked Thomas if he could help me adopt Army girl. He said he could, and he did. He explained the process, so there were no surprises. He also updated my trust, which makes me feel confident that when I pass, Army girl will be taken care of. I am forever grateful to Thomas for making this happen for us, WE are a family now.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
