Derek Yeats Brandt

Derek Brandt joined the firm in 2004 and became a firm shareholder in 2006. Derek heads the firm’s complex litigation group, which concentrates on the representation in courts throughout the country of businesses and individuals in matters of intellectual property, business competition, contract actions, fraud actions, consumer protection, environmental law and other business torts.

Derek focuses primarily on plaintiff-side commercial or consumer-oriented litigation, typically involving contingent fee representation. He has experience in a broad range of litigations and issues, ranging from negligence actions to complex product liability matters, from securities and financial matters to environmental actions, as well as competition and antitrust.

At the same time, Derek has represented a wide range of clients, including individuals (or putative classes of individuals), privately held businesses, publicly traded companies and government entities. Among publicly traded companies alone, Derek’s representations have ranged from a small innovative medical device manufacturer to a multinational Fortune 100 company with market capitalization in excess of $50 billion.

Derek was named an Illinois Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers magazine 2012-2015. He is the author of a regular column in Chicago Lawyer magazine entitled “Complex Litigation Corner.”
