Georgianna Junco Kelman

Without Georgianna we would not have received a BII (1-on-1) for our daughter. Our sweet girl has Down Syndrome and is very capable, but needed a 1-on-1 to access the curriculum. We were not only denied placement for a least restrictive setting, but lied to on multiple occasions, and denied a 1-on-1... by LAUSD. Because of the 1-on-1 denial we saw (sadly shared anticipated concerns in the IEP meeting) series educational issues arise for our daughter. We then also needed a 1-on-1 to keep her on task as well. LAUSD was in the process of denying her a 1-on-1 once again in our next IEP when Georgianna called them out for being deceptive in their language and breaking the law. Only then did they offer the 1-on-1. This service made a world of difference for our daughter accessing the curriculum and staying on task. But we are still undoing some the damage done by LAUSD's denial of her legal rights in the first couple years of her early education. We are incredibly grateful to Georgianna and Isabel for all of their help.

To say that Mrs. Kelman has helped us in our journey with IEP and district processes is an understatement! For years she has been nothing short of instrumental in spearheading our boys' educations and ensuring they receive the resources that they are LEGALLY entitled to. All too often the schools h...ave attempted short-selling my boys with less-than-mediocre services which they surely would not have benefited from, and Georgianna has kept an eagle eye on how the schools attempted to bypass appropriate programs and services in order to save their dime! Not on her watch!!! Georgianna has protected our boys with her keen understanding of special education laws and has managed to obtain the rightful assistance from the district, and they continue to thrive under her protection. She leaves no stone unturned in finding new ways to obtain the proper accommodations for our children. Additionally, Ms. Kelman's heart is bigger than I could have ever imagined! As a mother of 3 children herself, she understands a parent's fears and plight down this road and literally becomes emotionally invested in her case. You witness that when the momma bear in her comes out during IEP's...she is absolutely fierce and she wins (so bring your popcorn 'cause it's fun to watch)! Georgianna Kelman was a Godsend to my family. Even though she specializes in children, she took on my adult LPS conserved son to help us in a fight with the Regional Center over covering appropriate service's for my son's many needs. From my first call with her, when I expected her to pass on our cas...e because my son is in his 20's, I was taken in by her passion and sincere desire to do anything in her power to help us out. Georgianna knows the law, the system, and her adversaries on the other side. Throughout our preparations, she was meticulous, strategic, straight shooting, and a fierce advocate for our son's rights. Georgianna was always available to me, and as we got closer to our hearing she or Isabel would respond to my emails and calls, often within minutes, sometimes on the weekends too. She ended up working tirelessly to solve our problems, and most importantly, to insure that our son would get the services that he deserved.
