Halperin in the very very highest regard; and I feel extremely blessed that she came to be my counsel in what has been the most difficult and trying ordeal of my 72+ years on the planet. Less-than-flattering characterizations of attorneys abound; and I confess that my prior expe...riences led me to hold a less-than-trustful perception of practitioners of the legal profession. Jennifer Halperin has completely shifted my perceptions, and in the most positive of fashions. I'll begin on the practical level to get it out of the way, but it is nonetheless essential as it pertains to any client in any situation. Her billing is impeccable: Clear, precise, thorough & well-detailed, the very embodiment of transparency. There was never a question of where money was spent -- I found her billing unassailable. I'll declare here & now that You are truly getting what you pay for. (I've had a past experience where I received a 4-figure bill from an entertainment attorney that simply stated: "Legal services -- 2 hours". True story. And now I'll amend that declaration, because I actually perceive you get more than you pay for. I had one crucial situation early on that -- owing to my own failings & ignorance -- I found myself in a ridiculous predicament where I was faced with mandatory distribution of a sizable pension in the middle of negotiations, long before settlement was reached. This is an extraordinary circumstance. Simply put, I needed a total lump sump distribution, which required consent from the opposing counsel & her client. Further, there was a seemingly impossible time-deadline for obtaining this consent; and further still, both opposing counsel & (especially) opposing party had proven both difficult and anything-but-timely in responding to matters. With about one week in which to resolve the matter, I was resigned to all being lost, and having to accept a distribution-method which would have ruined me. I was despondent beyond measure. When apprised of the situation, Jennifer calmly said, "I wish you had told me right away; but take a deep breath, let's see what we can do." I won't belabor the details, but suffice it to say that Jennifer pulled off what I didn't think was possible. She worked with opposing counsel -- and worked through a weekend -- to bring opposing party to the table, and we got the required sign-offs in the nick of time. I am solvent today because of this, and I consider that Jennifer went above-and-beyond the call of duty -- she would have been defensible in throwing up her hands and giving up, as the situation was dire & seemed irresolvable. The precipitating error was mine, not hers (and in solving problems, she at times ventured "outside her lane" of expertise to address certain problems) -- but instead, she patiently & calmly orchestrated the only outcome that I could live with. I have considered her nothing short of a miracle-worker ever since. Jennifer is super-thorough, far-seeing, wise, patient, tough with you when she needs to be (and You need her to be), extremely prompt & responsive (you don't end up waiting on her EVER). AND she is extraordinarily hard working -- it was not uncommon to receive emails from her or be copied on matters-at-hand at 6 AM Monday morning. I would hear from her on weekends if it was called for. In the balance of the process, she was steady, focused on both the long-term goals and the immediate next-steps, and unrelenting in staying on top of opposing counsel in my behalf. At every step, she presented me with alternatives & possible next steps if an immediate outcome might not be achieved. I never felt "at sea" about what had to happen next. SO IN-SUM, though the travails of the litigation were the worst experience of my life, I felt that my counsel was the best that I could have hoped for. I mean that with all sincerity.
